Nashville Attractions
Besides the city's country music-centric attractions, there's plenty to see in Nashville, including the massive Nashville Farmers Market; Centennial Park, which includes a full-size replica of the Greek Parthenon; and Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. The city also boasts a distinctive shopping scene, where you can find vintage leather cowboy boots, high-end clothing from boutiques opened by country music celebrities, and vinyl at Jack White's Third Man Records.
Nashville Restaurants & Nightlife
When you think of Nashville food, BBQ and hot chicken -- the city's iconic spicy, fire-alarm-red fried chicken -- come to mind. But the city is also home to fine-dining restaurants that have earned national praise, including Rolf and Daughters and City House (both located in the Germantown neighborhood). But of course, Southern food has a foothold here; the breakfast spot Biscuit Love is a favorite, and Hattie B's is the spot for hot chicken. Live music is a big part of the nightlife scene here. Broadway Street in Downtown Nashville is home to the "Honky Tonk Highway" and is lined with late-night bars and music venues brandished with giant neon signs. The tiny Bluebird Cafe in Green Hills, which plays a big part on the show "Nashville," is the place to catch emerging singer-songwriters.
Nashville Culture
Country music is the driving force of culture here. The Grand Ole Opry is the famous weekly radio show that's been going strong since 1925. The Ryman Auditorium, known as the temporary home of the Grand Ole Opry, is a National Historic Landmark that hosts performances spanning a variety of genres. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and Music Row, home base for Nashville's country music industry, are also big cultural attractions.
Nashville Transportation
Nashville is definitely a car town, but the MTA provides decent bus service, cabs are plentiful, and the bike-sharing program B-cycle fills the gaps. While it may be hard to get from neighborhood to neighborhood without a car, individual neighborhoods are very walkable. The Gulch, East Nashville, 12 South, and Germantown are some neighborhoods that enjoy proximity to plenty of restaurants, bars, and shopping.
