Around Arroyo Chico
The community shares many of the same housing styles as other neighborhoods to the south and west of the university. The vast majority of residences are smaller, single-family homes. Houses date back to around the 1950s, with the majority of lots having small, fenced-in backyards. Broadway Boulevard does border the northernmost point of the neighborhood, which brings in added traffic, as does South Country Club Road, which separates the neighborhood from the golf course. The quieter areas are on streets running east and west, away from Broadway Boulevard and Country Club Road.
Small, family-owned restaurants are located throughout the neighborhood. Although there are several fast food options just across the border on East 22nd Street, there are also a handful of local favorites. The Lucky Wishbone, which is a Tucson staple, is available for late-night fried goodness. Broadway Boulevard has even more options, providing Ethiopian restaurants, pizzerias, and Mexican establishments.
Arroyo Chico is a primarily residential neighborhood that has commercial and entertainment options nestled along its borders. The Robison Elementary School is located here as is the Korean Presbyterian Church. Each street looks more or less the same running east and west as lots are similarly sized. However, from Beverly Drive down through 22nd Street, each house is on a large, individual lot.
There are few Friday night neighborhood opportunities here. Big John's Brewing Company does have a tasting room, which is a great way to start off the evening by sampling some of the locally produced beers. Residents can also start out the night by venturing up to Broadway Boulevard for a quick dinner before venturing to a cocktail lounge. The Silver Room is a no-frills dive bar that's been a hit with locals since opening in the 1940s.
The perfect Sunday takes place either walking some of the public paths around the golf course or visiting the Rincon Vista Sports Complex. Great for playing catch or kicking the ball around, Rincon has visitors covered, especially considering that personal backyards may not have grass (outside of the synthetic offering). Just on the other side of the freeway is Tucson Classic Car Museum. Finish off the weekend with some grocery shopping in Broadway Village.
