Living in a house isn’t for everyone, especially for homebuyers who are used to living in condos. Although there are pros and cons for each option, many people typically find condo living more affordable and easier to maintain—and who doesn’t like having amenities? In Los Angeles though, not all condominiums are created equal. Compared to living in a traditional single-family or duplex home, a low- or mid-rise building, a townhome, or even a co-op, living in a high-rise condo can be more attractive to some people because of the city views and increased security. Some high-rises even offer residents luxury amenities such as an on-site gym, pool, spa, valet parking, rooftop lounge, and much more.

If you are a homeowner looking to live in a high-rise development in Los Angeles but don’t know where to start, below are four neighborhoods in Los Angeles for high-rise condo living.

Downtown Los Angeles

Located towards the east side of Los Angeles is the lively Downtown LA neighborhood, which is currently going through a development boom. The surge in new and modern high-rise developments has been attracting more buyers who can afford the high price tags. The area is filled with diverse residents ranging from professionals working in business, finance, fashion, and photography. DTLA is not just trendy and sleek, it’s also a growing cultural hotspot home to museums, art galleries, award-winning restaurants, outdoor shopping outlets, and nightlife. There are a few pockets downtown that are still undeveloped, but overall, the district is dominated by a slew of luxury high-rise condominiums and entertainment amenities. This neighborhood attracts affluent homebuyers who want to be in a live, work, and play environment. In addition, residents don’t really need to have a car downtown, especially since access to public transit is just around the corner.

Santa Monica

Towards the opposite end of Los Angeles in the city’s west side is Santa Monica. Not only is the city working to become the most self-sustainable and eco-friendly city in the world, it is also filled with pedestrian and cyclist-friendly infrastructure, outdoor shopping amenities, trendy bars, upscale cafes and restaurants, tourist attractions, and of course, beautiful beaches. Like DTLA, many affluent residents live in Santa Monica, such as tech professionals from Silicon Beach, studio creatives, students, and entertainment professionals. Last year, Santa Monica was ranked first in the nation for the most expensive median home prices. Compared to the suit-and-tie vibe that’s prevalent downtown, Santa Monica is a much more laid-back community, especially because residents are just steps away from the boardwalk and Santa Monica Pier. Living in a high-rise in Santa Monica would offer scenic beach and mountain views.

Hollywood

Near the center of Los Angeles is Hollywood. Although many people think of Hollywood as a neighborhood that’s filled with glitz and glamour, it’s actually one of Los Angeles’ more affordable places to live, and it’s ideal for homebuyers who enjoy being near dive bars and diverse dining options. With heavy-trafficked tourist areas, such as the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Cinerama Dome, and several entertainment studios, Hollywood can be crowded for much of the day. Residents also have easy access to recreational areas, such as Runyon Canyon and Griffith Park. There is a wide array of housing options available in Hollywood as well, from low- to mid-rise apartments and older single-family homes to contemporary high-rises and sprawling hidden estates. To find the neighborhood’s most popular high-rise condominiums, simply head towards Hollywood and Franklin Boulevards.

Marina Del Rey

Even though Marina Del Rey wasn’t really on the housing radar in the past because of its lack of attractive options and the neighborhood’s lack of walkability, this has drastically changed in recent years. Developers have been building streets filled with new residential communities and parks in an effort to make the neighborhood more pedestrian-friendly. Marina Del Rey is truly a dream city for homebuyers who want to be near uncrowded beaches, newly-constructed shopping centers, upscale dining, and open greenspace. Many of the neighborhood’s high-rise condominiums, which can be found heading towards Admiralty Way and Marina Pointe Drive, overlook the ocean and offer residents premiere resort-style condo living. Residents living in Marina Del Rey include established industry professionals, tech entrepreneurs, young families, and seniors.
