They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and in Downtown Dallas, there are plenty of places to chow down. For residents looking to grab something before work or for travelers staying in one of the many hotels, there’s a wide selection of options for your morning meal. Downtown Dallas is also a great weekend destination for locals in Uptown, Deep Ellum, and Oak Cliff who want to branch out in breakfast dining.

Whether you’re a resident, visitor, or business professional, here are the best breakfast spots in downtown Dallas to try.

Downtown Dallas

Yolk

With a name like Yolk, visitors can expect a lot of breakfast dishes with eggs. The folks at Yolk are creative in their omelets, scramblers, and benedicts. The Hey Ricky! Omelet is a southwestern option with avocado, jalapeno, and pepper jack cheese. Their pancakes, French toasts, crepes, and frittatas are a big hit, as are other unique dishes like bacon waffles and corned beef hash and eggs. With a location in One Arts Plaza in the northeast section of Downtown Dallas, Yolk makes for an appropriate choice if you’re heading to any museums in the Arts District. It’s also just a short drive away from Highway 366 and I-75 for anyone needing to hop on or off a main highway in the mornings.

Ellen’s Southern Kitchen

Ellen’s Southern Kitchen is the place to grab a big, hearty breakfast. Located in the Northwest side of Downtown Dallas in the West End, Ellen’s provides breakfast and brunch choices all day long in a stylish space with a bar, coffee bar, and cozy seating. The menu features everything from homemade biscuits and gravy with large, thick pieces of bacon to shrimp and grits, huevos rancheros, steak and eggs, and French toast. Creative options include crab cake benedict and the sweet and savory pancake pot pie. There’s even a few “healthy” options (or as healthy as a Southern breakfast can get). Take note that weekends at Ellen’s are quite busy with hour-long waits.

Sunrise Cafe and Grill

Sunrise Cafe and Grill serves simple breakfasts in decent portions for an affordable price. Located in the Energy Plaza building in the center of Downtown Dallas, there are no signs from the outside indicating it exists. Inside, Sunrise Cafe and Grill serves food in a small food court-style space. They offer simple, quick breakfast options like breakfast taquitos or bagels and cream cheese for less than $2, as well as larger orders like vegetable or three meat omelets, pancake plates, breakfast sandwiches, and a breakfast platter, complete with two eggs, bacon or sausage, potatoes, and toast. All their breakfast fixings are less than $5, making for an affordable breakfast in the heart of one of the priciest places in Dallas.

 CBD Provisions

CBD Provisions is The Joule Hotel’s premiere restaurant. Stylized like an American brasserie, CBD Provisions serves lunch and dinner, as well as breakfast. The breakfast menu is simple and includes a breads, toasts, and grains section with offerings like bagels and lox, avocado toast, and yogurt parfaits. Larger platters like omelets, pork migas, and pancakes are available, but this section is limited. While the breakfast menu isn’t as expansive as some restaurants, CBD Provisions does provide high-quality items.

Cindi’s New York Deli and Bakery

Cindi’s New York Deli and Bakery serves breakfast all day long right outside Union Station, Dallas’ DART and Amtrak station. This small cafe is part of a larger building and has a wood-heavy interior with a New York deli vibe. Their menu is so large it can be a little overwhelming, but it manages to mix New York and Texas favorites into one. Guests can order New York favorites like latkes, matzo brie, cheese blintzes, and lox and eggs, and Texas dishes like chorizo and eggs. If a large breakfast isn’t for you, grab a pastry and coffee to go.

Record Grill

West End’s Record Grill is an old-school diner located in a tiny building that barely has room for a grill, counter with bar stools, and a few tables. This no-frills spot serves up all the basics like eggs, bacon, hash browns, and grits for a cheap price. It’s the most laid-back spot among the breakfast joints in Downtown Dallas, with a set of regulars who live and work in the area. If all you require is a delicious meal at a good price, Record Grill is for you.
