64-Story Skyscraper to Join Growing Downtown LA Skyline
Downtown Los Angeles just welcomed the Wilshire Grand as the new tallest building in LA. Via Curbed LA, plans have been submitted to the Department of City Planning to develop yet another nearby project adjacent to the busy shopping complex FIGat7th. This proposal calls for the construction of a 64-story residential skyscraper.
This project was filed by Brookfield Properties, which is currently DTLA’s largest office landlord. They acquired the vacant parcel at 945 W. Eighth St. in 2013 as part of a $450 million deal made with MPG Office Trust.
According to the plans, the condo tower will have 781 residential units and about 6,700 square feet dedicated to commercial space on the ground floor. The project will also include an 831-vehicle parking garage.
Local architecture firms Marmol-Radziner and Large Architecture have been commissioned to design the skyscraper. They have already released early renderings illustrating a towering glass building with a pedestrian-friendly courtyard.
The firm currently owns FIGat7th as well as other dominating properties in the Financial District such as the office buildings at Ernst & Young Plaza and the 777 Tower.
