Humboldt House - Humboldt Park

Tucked away on an unassuming block of California in Humboldt Park, Humboldt House is a modern-meets-vintage decor shop. The aesthetic here is boho chic balanced by tons of color. Humboldt House is the place to go for a statement rug or vibrant pillows, as well as candles, wall hangings, and planters. The store also carries jewelry, handbags, and other general home goods. Owner Claire Tibbs lives in the neighborhood, and shop dogs Lady Bird and Squid are reason enough to make a stop here.

Paperish Mess - Ukranian Village

Paperish Mess has quirky, fun homemade goods in its artistic space along Chicago Avenue in Ukrainian Village. The space doubles as an art gallery with an exhibition space toward the back of the shop. Paperish Mess carries work by more than 200 independent artists who create jewelry, soaps, candles, kitchenware, baby clothes, and so much more. There is a solid collection of both framed and unframed art prints, many of which are inspired by the Chicago neighborhoods and landmarks. The shop is co-owned by Lisa Muscato, a visual artist and jewelry maker, and Sean Murty, a musician, designer and woodworker. Expect a warm hello from the friendly shop cat.
