Alderman Proposes Zoning Changes for Milwaukee Ave. in Avondale, Logan Square
A group of Avondale business owners have expressed concerns about how rapid development along Logan Square’s stretch of Milwaukee Avenue could spill over into their neighborhood. Now, Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th Ward) has introduced two new downzoning measures that would affect Milwaukee Avenue in both neighborhoods, according to Curbed Chicago.
The proposed measures would change the zoning for 2610-2787 N. Milwaukee Ave., 2800-2957 N. Milwaukee Ave., and 3015 N. Elbridge Ave. to B2-1 zoning, according to the report. B2-1 zoning is a low-density classification.
The group of concerned business owners, the Milwaukee Avenue Stakeholders Alliance, requested that the alderman vie for B1-1 zoning, a more restrictive classification, according to the report. Right now, the areas in question are zoned for mixed-density commercial and residential uses.
Ramirez-Rosa has introduced the downzoning proposals to the City Council.
