Architect Renzo Piano Begins Condo Project in Miami, His First in Western Hemisphere
Renzo Piano, the Italian architect, engineer, and winner of the 1998 Pritzker Prize has started his first residential project in the Western hemisphere — and it’s in Miami. Per Ocean Drive, Piano’s Eighty Seven Park residences will feature 66 beachfront units within the northern city limits of Miami Beach.
As one might expect of a luxury condo from an esteemed architect, the project is teeming with extravagant details. The units, co-designed by Paris’ Rena Dumas Architecture Interieure, are perhaps less exciting than the accompanying amenities, which include two parks, an in-house botanist, and a wine cellar. They’ve even brought in Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo to design staff uniforms. These offerings mark an amenities arms race in luxury condos seen recently in The Ritz-Carlton Residences’ helipad and private yacht experience for residents.
Though one park is open to the public, Eighty Seven Park’s other green space mimics New York’s Gramercy Park in its exclusivity. A key to Eighty Seven Park’s private, second park is a symbol of privilege available only to residents. The private park sits on two acres and includes gardens, terraces, lounges, pools, and an outdoor pavilion. Ocean Drive calls it “a mini Central Park.” And who better to look after a private park’s natural flora than an in-house botanist? A certified botanist will be on staff not only for the property’s gardens and greenhouse but also for residents looking to create their own oasis.
Residents will also have access to an on-site wine cellar featuring more than 100 reds, whites, and rosés sourced globally. The cellar, called Enoteca, will also feature tapas and food pairings with bottles available for take-home and delivery.
