The old Texas Instruments campus on Highway 75 in Plano was a nondescript, unremarkable building you probably passed a thousand times without noticing it. But the building is in the process of getting an update, thanks to the company that recently bought the facility. According to the Dallas Morning News, the new owners are transforming the old TI campus into a cutting-edge corporate campus called Legacy Central that you’re not likely to miss.

Los Angeles-based Regent Properties bought the 85-acre campus about 18 months ago. The tech company’s buildings are getting an eye-catching makeover with a series of brightly-colored murals by artist Adrian Torres. The Legacy Central project was recently painted and is also getting new landscaping. The large murals, scattered outdoor plants, and landscaping with native plants give the property the feel of a college campus or suburban hotel.

Construction is beginning soon on apartments, restaurants, and a new parking garage. By the time the project is complete, the former Texas Instruments campus will more closely resemble a modern mixed-use development than an outdated office building.

"We saw this as an opportunity to take a bunch of boring flat big buildings and make something really cool out of it," Eric Fleiss, CEO of Regent Properties, said in the Dallas Morning News. "We hid all the '80s brown brick.”

The campus includes an open “amenity area” that weaves through the campus, plus plenty of grassy areas to sit outside. Integrating elements of nature and art into the project are ways to modernize the corporate campus.

The Legacy Central campus encompasses almost a million square feet in four separate buildings. The total amount of space is nearly equal to a skyscraper.

Regent is also finishing a 25,000-square-foot fitness and sports center that includes a full-size basketball court and outdoor swimming pool. A conference center is being built in one of the two 200,000-square-foot office buildings in the first phase of the development.
