Local favorite Phoenix restaurant Cooper’stown has closed its doors after an 18-year run, per AZ Central.

Opening in 1998 in a historic Jackson Street building in the Phoenix warehouse district Downtown, the restaurant was named for shock-rocker Alice Cooper who partnered with multiple investors to open the themed eatery.

Adorned with memorabilia of the rock star, as well as jerseys from local sports teams, the family-friendly joint boasted “Bases Loaded Big Unit” hotdogs to honor Arizona Diamondbacks’ legend Randy Johnson and was also known for hosting live bands.

The last few years have seen expansive growth in Phoenix, including a multitude of new restaurants downtown. With growth surging to the north of Jefferson Street, such as the CityScape Complex, the decision was made to close on a high note according to a statement by restaurant manager Shep Gordon.

Noting the obvious changes and difficulties faced by restaurants everywhere, Gordon said “we are very proud of the 20 years Cooper'stown operated in spite of everything closing around it.”
