As a whole, Clark County is working towards becoming a more bike-friendly city. Although there are nearly 400 miles of bike lanes in the county and more than a few bicycle advocacy groups ready to help new and veteran cyclists get started, there are several Las Vegas neighborhoods with some of the best biking trails. Here are the best Las Vegas neighborhoods for bicycling.

Cadence

Cadence is a budding master-planned community on the southeast side of the Valley. At 2,200 acres, Cadence was named one of the best-selling master-planned communities in the United States. One of its most significant features is its 450 acres of open space available to residents. The community has been noted for its bike-share program, which uses wireless technology to register residents before they take the bikes for a spin around the community. From parks to trails, Cadence’s residents have collectively biked more than 17,000 miles and 2,600 hours on these neighborhood-friendly bikes.

Lake Las Vegas

Just minutes away from Cadence is Lake Las Vegas, the lakeside neighborhood just outside Whitney. At the community’s heart is the shopping and dining village where locals, tourists, and residents alike can enjoy water sports or bike rentals. Whether you want to bike down the lanes and avenues of Lake Las Vegas subdivisions or wind through the cobblestone streets of the village, this neighborhood is certainly a charming area to discover by bike.

Downtown

In its first six months, Downtown’s bike-share program drew 8,269 rentals, according to an article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Cyclists logged over 4,000 hours and 25,000 miles on the bike-share program, significant especially considering that there are 180 bicycles available to tourists, residents, and locals at 21 stations.

Downtown is a great place to bike not only because of its centrally located small businesses, which include coffee shops, bars, and coworking spaces alongside major casinos and hotels, but also because of its vibe. The Downtown area is full of murals, local art, and great architectural features like the 55-foot-tall Praying Mantis that guards Container Park. Plus, it’s among the most walkable neighborhoods in Las Vegas, perfect for cyclists who need a break.

The cost of renting a bike in Downtown starts at $4 for 30 minutes of ride time, but you’ll get a much better deal if you purchase a full day for just $8 through the city’s RTC Bike Share. Locals can also purchase a $20 monthly membership for access to any bikes in the area.

Summerlin

As the largest master-planned community in Las Vegas, Summerlinis a clear contender as one of the best neighborhoods in Las Vegas for cycling. With close access to natural resources like Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Summerlin has both suburban and rural paths for cyclists of all skill levels. Summerlin’s parks are also great areas to enjoy on a bike thanks to the community’s 150-mile trail system that weave through nearly 20 parks.

Every year, Summerlin hosts the Tour de Summerlin, which is Southern Nevada’s longest running bicycle event. In recent years, Tour de Summerlin has taken place in Downtown Summerlin, an ideal outdoor shopping area for both walking and cycling. With a mission to showcase why the community is among the best places to bicycle in the Southwest, Tour de Summerlin takes cyclists through the miles of bike lanes throughout Summerlin.
