Chicago Calls for Proposals on O'Hare Express Train Project
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Infrastructure Trust are eliciting proposals from teams that could help design, build, operate, and fund an express train that could take passengers from downtown to O’Hare airport in 20 minutes or less, according to the Chicago Sun-times.
The city is asking for proposals to include an O’Hare station, a downtown station, and a maintenance location, as well as insight into how this new transportation line could come to be with minimal disruption, according to the report.
The city has proposed three different route options, including the CTA Blue Line, the Metra North Central line, and freight railroads that run to Forest Park and north to the airport.
The city is also remaining open to interested teams proposing different routes, according to the report.
The price of riding this transportation line has yet to be determined, but it is promised to be less than a taxi or Uber ride.
Elon Musk’s Boring Company is among bidders for the project, according to an Engadget report.
Jan. 24 is the deadline to submit proposals to the city.
