Chicago to Invest in Major Cottage Grove Green Line Renovation
The Woodlawn neighborhood, future site of the Barack Obama Presidential Center on Chicago’s South Side, is undergoing big changes. An overhaul of the neighborhood’s Cottage Grove Green Line L train stop is the latest revitalization project to be announced, according to DNAinfo.
The Green Line station project will include updates such as new lighting, new stairs, and architectural changes. Though this plan represents a significant investment, an exact price tag and funding source has yet to be revealed.
The revamped CTA station and future presidential library are just two of the dramatic changes coming to Woodlawn. The nonprofit Preservation of Affordable Housing recently broke ground on a new development right next to the Cottage Grove station. The development will have a blend of retail and residential elements.
Other major plans for the neighborhood include two new lakefront golf courses, a project led by Tiger Woods.
The advent of two projects led by such well-known figures, the public transportation update, and new residential and retail development could be transformative for Woodlawn.
