It is no secret that Chicago is vying to land Amazon’s second headquarters. A number of potential sites in the city have been cause for speculation, but could Amazon decide to head to Chicago’s suburbs?

McDonald’s is leaving behind a sizeable campus in Oak Brook when it completes its migration to Chicago. Rumors have been swirling around the site and the possibility that it could make sense for the tech company’s HQ2, according to NBC Chicago.

DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin believes Oak Brook would be a strong candidate.

“We have low taxes, low government, low crime, and outstanding public schools,” said Cronin, according to the report.

The former McDonald’s headquarters joins the former Finkl steel site and Old Post Office building as a potential Chicagoland home for the Amazon HQ2 campus.

If Amazon does decide to settle its second headquarters in Oak Brook, it would be a significant departure from the recent headquarters trend. More and more Chicago-area companies are doing what McDonald’s is doing – leaving behind the suburbs and taking their central operations to the city.
