CTA Plans Transit-Oriented Developments Around Red Line
The CTA is moving forward with updates on several Red Line stations, as well as the bypass that will involve the Brown, Red, and Purple lines, according to Progressive Railroading. As a part of this project, the CTA is planning a number of transit-oriented developments (TODs) near the Red Line.
The Federal Transit Administration granted the CTA $1.25 million for TOD work, according to the report. Construction on the CTA’s TODs is expected to begin in 2019. Work will likely last for several years.
The Red Line stations due for updates include Argyle and Lawrence in Uptown, Berwyn in Andersonville, Bryn Mawr in Edgewater, according to the report. The CTA’s bypass project will be built near the Belmont Station in Lakeview. The bypass will allow the Brown, Purple, and Red lines to intersect with the goal of improving capacity in this busy section of the L tracks.
The CTA plans to purchase a number of properties near the bypass construction site. The purchased properties will be the focus of the CTA’s TOD work, according to the report.
