CTA to Build New Green Line Station at Damen Avenue
The CTA plans to build a new Green Line station at Damen Avenue, according to Gazette Chicago. The new station will be built to help bridge the 1.5-mile gap between the Green Line stops at California and Ashland Avenues.
The CTA is planning to begin design and engineering work on the new station this year, according to the report. Construction of the new stop is being funded by the Kinzie Industrial Corridor Tax Financing District (TIF).
Ald. Walter Burnett Jr. (27th Ward) supports the new station. He believes the Damen Green Line stop will improve access to the United Center and help improve public transit access for neighborhood residents, according to the report. The 27th Ward includes several neighborhoods including the Near West Side, West Town, Illinois Medical District, East Garfield Park, and River West.
“The new station at Damen will fulfill a longstanding need for better options in the neighborhood and spur economic activity, improving quality of life for everyone who lives and works in the area,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel, according to the report.
