Dallas-Fort Worth Counties Rank High in Median Household Income
Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that the median household income in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area was $63,812 in 2016, which was a 2.7 percent increase from 2015, and the poverty level decreased from 13.4 to 12.7 percent.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Texas as a whole also saw jumps in income and dips in poverty last year but at a lesser degree.
Three of the state’s five counties with the highest median household income in 2016 are in Dallas-Fort Worth.
"D-FW has been the fastest-growing large metro area in the nation for many years,” Bernard Weinstein, associate director of SMU’s Maguire Energy Institute, told the News. “We’ve been outpacing everyone."
Though median incomes were driven by corporate relocations and an exploding job market, the highest median household incomes were concentrated in suburban counties.
Per a Dallas Morning News analysis, Denton County came in at No. 5 with a median household income of $80,613.
Despite the corporate boom in Plano and Frisco, Collin County’s average household income of $89,638 is the state’s third highest.
Rockwall County’s median household income of $95,731 is the largest in Texas. Ironically, Rockwall is likewise the smallest county in the state, but it has created its own upscale boomtown in recent years by aligning its close proximity to Lake Ray Hubbard to major developments.
