Here’s what we know. Developer Jeffrey Fish filed plans last year with Los Angeles to build a unique 55-to-57-story tower on an L-shaped lot at 319-323 1/2 5th Street and 440-442 S. Hill Street close to Pershing Square and Downtown LA.

Here’s what we don’t yet know. What, exactly, will be inside that massive, quirky skyscraper.

The proposal actually includes two different possibilities. The first of which calls for a mixture of condos and hotels atop a six-story podium structure, underground parking and ground-floor retail. Specifically, plans call for a maximum of 100 condos, approximately 200 hotel rooms, up to five restaurants or bars, separate hotel and residential lobbies, and two cantilevered, glass-bottomed pool decks.

The second options would scrap hotel plans and focus on condo units. Plans would call for a maximum of 142 condos, approximately 25,000 square feet of commercial restaurant, bar, and fitness uses, up to four restaurants and bars, two pool decks, and a fitness area.

CallisonRTKL will be designing the complex, which is currently undergoing environmental review. Either way they go, their designs would include what Urbaniza LA describes as jenga-like protrusions,” including a multi-story hole in the center of the tower and a 13th-floor sky lobby.

There’s a long way to go before this project gets finalized and approved but construction is expected to begin in 2019 with completion by Spring 2022.
