Edgewater Gets New Dog Park Near Hollywood Beach
Rising waters in Lake Michigan flooded what used to be the Foster Avenue Dog Beach, but now residents of Edgewater have a new place to bring their four-legged friends to roam free. A new fenced-in dog park opened on Bryn Mawr Avenue between the Lakefront Trail and Lake Shore Drive near Kathy Osterman (Hollywood) Beach last week.
Previously, the Foster Avenue Dog Beach was the only official dog area in Edgewater, and residents inundated 48th Ward Ald. Harry Osterman with requests to create a new spot for dogs after the beach flooded. Over the years residents have had to make do with makeshift neighborhood spots like tennis courts or the lawn of Senn High School.
Alderman Osterman made a promise to Edgewater residents in January that a new dog park would be delivered by early summer. According to Ally Brisbin, a spokesman for Osterman, there are plans to add more dog parks to the community in the future. At the moment, the ward leaders are looking for volunteers to help oversee and manage the park.
