Florida's Brightline Train Will Be a Boon to South Florida Real Estate
All aboard Florida’s Brightline train service.
This express train line that will run between Miami and West Palm Beach is scheduled to start riding this summer. Consulting South Florida real estate experts, The Real Deal broke down the train’s potential impact on the area’s real estate and economy.
With the train running, it’ll be possible to live in Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach and work in downtown Miami, or vice-versa, opening the door to more residential real estate developments in those areas. It’ll be a 30 minute ride between Miami to Fort Lauderdale, and an hour from Miami to West Palm Beach—almost half the time it would take to drive.
Right now, four-million square feet in real estate development is planned around the three Brightline rail stations in South Florida. Retail, residences, parking, and mixed-use projects are all on the way, prompted by developers attracted by the increased traffic those areas will receive.
The train also has the added benefit of easing South Florida’s traffic congestion by taking cars off the roads, making the area even more attractive to millennials who love mass transit.
The train has been under construction for three years and will extend to Orlando by next year.
