Haywood's Holiday Bowl Site Approved For 72 Townhomes
For almost a decade, the vacant Holiday Bowl bowling alley has taken up space at the corner of Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway in Haywood, CA just outside Oakland. Finally, plans are in motion to change that and bring some valuable housing into the region.
Last week, the Hayward Planning Commission unanimously approved Valley Oak Partners’ plan to demolish the bowling alley and build 72 townhouses as well as an 8,000-square-foot commercial space. Dubbed Mission Village, the 5.88-acre development will also include a green public plaza, an 11,542 square-foot green space, a zen garden, a children's play area, and an overlook area above the Mission Hills of Hayward Golf Course. 79 total parking spaces will be included with 48 specifically set aside for customers of the commercial tenants.
The plan for Mission Village has been in the works since 2014 with more townhomes and less green space. A desire to make the development walkable and friendlier to the community changed the overall look but still allowed for all parties to be happy with the end result. The proposal now goes for final approval from the city council.
