Hill East in D.C. to Morph From Industrial to Residential With Townhome Development
Washington, D.C. developer Ditto Residential is teaming up with Maryland custom home designer OPaL LLC on a townhome project that is poised to transform the primarily industrial Watkins Alley section of Hill East (the lesser known neighbor of Capitol Hill) to a residential neighborhood.
The Watkins Alley development will include 44 units (29 townhouse condos and 15 flats) and will be built in a vintage, industrial style with brick instead of the glassy, modern condo look du jour. Construction is slated to begin in 2018.

More residential projects are on the way to the area. Elsewhere in the neighborhood, a luxury apartment development anchored by a Safeway store is in the works from Foulger-Pratt. OPaL also is working on redeveloping an 1890s warehouse into lofts and is converting a 1906 car barn into three condos—all in neighboring Capitol Hill.
