Recently, the Houston Chronicle released a list of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Houston. This list, compiled from the John Burns Real Estate Consulting Survey, included growing neighborhoods which are still quite affordable. So, if you’re thinking about moving to Houston, here are some rapidly growing but affordable neighborhoods around the Texas city.

Canyon Lakes West

Located in Cypress, the neighborhood of Canyon Lakes West is an attractive destination for anyone hoping to save money when buying a home. Some listing prices in the area fall under $200,000, making this neighborhood ideal for buyers on a budget. With the Cypress Towne Center just minutes down Fry Road, residents have access to plenty of shopping and dining. Residents can also drive into Houston within a half hour along Highway 290, putting the city’s entertainment and nightlife within quick reach.

Homebuyers looking in northwest Houston should consider Wildwood at Northpointe, a neighborhood located in the suburban town of Tomball.  Wildwood falls on the more affordable end of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Houston, with a median sale price of $312,000 and a few homes even listed below $200,000. Within 30 minutes, residents can drive into Houston along Highway 249 and Interstate 45, or they can travel to The Woodlands Mall, a popular shopping and dining destination north of the city. Nearby Tomball is also full of amenities.

Woodforest

Located in Montgomery, the neighborhood of Woodforest is east of Houston. The median sale price for homes in the area is $330,000, but homes can be found as low as $175,000. With many parks, nature trails, and Greens Bayou cutting through the center of town, Woodforest is a neighborhood for those who love the outdoors. When residents do need to go to Houston, the commute is only about 20 minutes along Interstate 10.

Bridgeland

The master-planned community Bridgeland sits northwest of Houston, in Cypress. Despite being one of the fastest growing communities around Houston, the median sale price on homes is only $340,000 with some homes listed as low as $172,000. Bridgeland is known for its many amenities, natural beauty, onsite schools, and more development to come. And when residents need to get into the city, the drive to Houston is about 30 minutes on Highway 290.

The Woodlands

Despite having a reputation for being a pricier part of Houston, the median sale price for a home in The Woodlands is only $346,000. While at the higher end of the communities on this list, The Woodlands still boasts homes below $200,000. Residents of The Woodlands can get into Houston within 30 minutes along Hardy Toll Road, but they don’t have to travel that far to find things to do. The nearby Woodlands Mall is a popular destination for dining and shopping, and the nearby W.G. Jones State Forest is alluring to nature lovers. But inside The Woodlands, an urban-suburban vibe makes it easy to stay in the community. 

Aliana

The most expensive community on this list is Aliana, where the median sale price on a home is $365,000. Aliana sits in southwest Houston, close to Sugar Land. Despite the higher median sale price, homes in the area can still be found in the $200,000s. Residents of Aliana have plenty of options when it comes to entertainment. Nearby Sugar Land is minutes away along Highway 6 where residents can enjoy the Sugar Land Town Square—a popular destination for residents hoping to go shopping, indulge in some live music, or just enjoy dinner. Also, Houston can be reached in about half an hour by traveling Interstate 69.
