Construction is underway on a seven-story, $20 million boutique hotel at 1401 E. 53rd St. in Hyde Park, not far from the University of Chicago. In acknowledgment of its proximity to academia, the hotel has officially been named Sophy, which is derived from the Greek word for knowledge, according to Curbed Chicago.

The hotel, expected to open in the spring of 2018, will feature 90 hotel rooms as well as a ground-floor restaurant and lounge. The project is being led by developers Olympia Companies and Smart Hotels. GREC Architects designed the building. Design firm Stonehill & Taylor has been selected to lead the hotel’s interior design and decor, Curbed Chicago reports.

Once completed, the hotel is expected to have a staff of 55. Sophy will attract guests who are visiting the Obama Presidential Center and the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park campus, according to the report.
