Improvement Slated for Retail Corridor in Chicago's Bridgeport Neighborhood
The retail corridor of Bridgeport, a neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, is set to get a makeover. The city recently announced the $3.8 million project for Morgan Street, between 31st and 35th Streets, to begin later this spring.
The city aims to support local businesses with a boost in retail traffic as well as increase pedestrian and biker safety. Planned improvements include adding bike racks, new and improved crosswalks, and other pedestrian safety measures, decorative pavers, street resurfacing, new energy-efficient street lights, new trees, and more.
The plan is part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Building a New Chicago program. Neighborhood residents should be advised that while the street will remain open to drivers and pedestrians during construction, parking will be limited.
