Once completed, Lincoln Common will bring condos, apartments, office space, retail space, and park space to Lincoln Park. A groundbreaking ceremony for the development was held two months ago, but DNAinfo reports construction has just officially begun.

Lincoln Common is being built at 2300 N. Lincoln Ave., the former site of Children’s Memorial Hospital. Hines McCaffrey Interests is leading the development project.

The project’s design aims to pair contemporary style with the neighborhood’s classic ambiance. The developers are preserving and restoring three buildings from the 1920s and 1930s, including the White Elephant building, Martha Wilson building, and Laundry Building and Boiler House, according to the Lincoln Common website.

As the new buildings are constructed, the developers will focus on environmental sustainability. Each new building at Lincoln Common aims to earn LEED Silver certification or better.

Lincoln Common, touted as “the new crossroads of Lincoln Park” is expected to be complete in late 2018 or early 2019, according to DNAinfo.
