Lincoln Park Church Could Be Converted into Residential Building
The Second Church of Christ, Scientist at 2700 N. Pine Grove Ave. in Lincoln Park is going up for sale, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. The fate of the church is uncertain but there is speculation that it will become a residential building.
The church’s current location is in a residential zoning area, making an apartment or condo conversion likely. The church also has potential to become a cultural institution or foundation of some kind, according to the report.
Plaza Property Advisors is marketing the property.
"Residential is a prime candidate because that's what the neighborhood is zoned for and I don't think the neighbors would go for retail or offices on that block," said John Colt Landreth, Plaza Property Advisors principal, according to the report.
The church building dates back to the early 20th century. It does not have protected landmark status, but Plaza Property Advisers is hoping the building will stay standing after the sale. The company is looking for buyers interested in repurposing the church, rather than demolishing it.
