A new Los Angeles River path segment arrived in Studio City this June, creating a tree-lined route along the concrete flood control channel.

According to a report from Curbed LA, the new trail segment, named the Zev Yaroslavsky LA River Greenway Trail, is lined with more than 3,000 trees and plants that are native to the region.

The current Los Angeles River Trail runs nearly 24 miles from north to south along the river, but also contains significant gaps for hikers and bicyclists alike. Starting at Riverside Drive in Glendale, it largely continues near the Interstate 5 freeway midway through Elysian Park. However, the trail cuts out from there until District Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard in Maywood, a stretch of about 10 miles. The trail then concludes all the way down in Long Beach.

This new trail segment won’t bridge that 10-mile gap, but it will create progress toward fixing additional holes along the river in the San Fernando Valley. LA has identified over 12 miles of gaps on the path in the Valley section alone.
