Massive Pier 70 Development Gets Final City Approval
The Pier 70 project, a massive waterfront development in San Francisco’s Potrero Point neighborhood, has won unanimous approval from the Board of Supervisors, after being in the works for a decade. The project will turn 35 acres of dilapidated shipyard into housing, commercial space, parks, and artist studios.
According to this SF Gate report, the project won approval from supervisors just one week after developer Forest City tweaked the plan to appease the Potrero Boosters neighborhood group, reducing the amount of commercial space to 1.75 million square feet from the originally planned 2.3 million. The group had raised concerns that too much commercial space would create traffic congestion and put further pressure on San Francisco’s jobs-to-housing ratio.
Pier 70 isn’t the only San Francisco pier that is getting an upgrade. Plans are also in the works to turn the century-old Fire Station 35 at Pier 22 ½ into a floating rescue pier.
