Mesa Secures Spot As Eighth-Safest Major U.S. City
There are many factors to consider when moving to a major city, including job opportunities, housing options, and — perhaps most important for some — safety. The good news for current and future Mesa residents is the city is among the safest in the nation, according to a new report released from home security system makers SafeWise.
Via the East Valley Tribune the results of their study come from data culled from 2015 FBI crime reports in major cities of over 300,000 people.
According to the data, the 10 safest major cities in America — some of which might seem surprising — include New York City, El Paso, Virginia Beach, San Diego, Santa Ana, San Jose; Tampa, Mesa, Los Angeles, and Boston.
The report says that Mesa keeps “the heat” on criminals by utilizing effective policing in combination with community outreach. Another reason provided for the safer streets are the increased training and transparency in law enforcement.
A common thread seen among the top safest cities is a commitment to preserving community. Mesa’s Police Department currently offers dozens of community outreach programs, such as ones helping local businesses to become “Dementia friendly,” and a “Safe Place Program” for youth 12-17 years old who require assistance for themselves or their families.
