“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” an iconic Chicago movie, features memorable scenes at a glass house that is the home of Ferris’ buddy Cameron Frye — and his dad’s red Ferrari. In real life the home, designed by modernist architect A. James Speyer, is located in Highland Park and is undergoing a significant restoration project, according to Curbed Chicago.

Architecture firm Baranski Hammer Moretta & Sheehy is leading the project, which will involve restoring the home and adding new features. The restoration will involve major changes to the home’s structural and mechanical systems, but the most noticeable change will be the addition of an underground garage.

The architects leading the restoration are less interested in the home’s connection to Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane than its status as a piece of midcentury modern architecture, according to the report. Nevertheless, fans of John Hughes’ film will easily recognize and appreciate the glass-walled home once it is restored.
