Multi-Use Development Proposed Along Downtown Tucson's 4th Avenue
Potential plans for a new multi-use development in Downtown Tucson have residents curious about the chance to find more housing opportunities in the city, according to KGUN 9.
The proposal is calling for a 14-story housing development with a mixture of condos and apartments along with additional mid-rise structures to host residential, commercial, and retail space.
The 4th Avenue development location includes a well-frequented student bar, Maloney’s Tavern, which would be demolished should the plans get approved. Partners on Fourth, LLC, who have partnered with CDG Architects on the proposal, plan to target a demographic that includes millennials and older adults, per the project consultant Tom Warne.
According to KVOA, Tucson City Councilmember Steve Kozachik added “this is market-rate housing with a commercial frontage that's going to respect the historic frontage on 4th Avenue.”
Though downtown parking continues to be an issue, project officials are looking into potential options while awaiting feedback from their pre-submittal review. Should the city approve their plans, the development could be completed by 2020.
