Naperville, Evanston Rank Among Best Places to Raise Children in Chicagoland
Four Chicago suburbs are among the best in the nation for raising a family, according to a new ranking from the National Council for Home Safety and Security. Naperville was the highest ranking Illinois community at No. 14 on the list.
Evanston ranked No. 28, Arlington Heights ranked No. 54, and Skokie ranked No. 96. Two other Illinois towns made the cut as well, including Champaign, which ranked No. 81, and Bloomington, which came in at No. 88. The organization considered 526 different cities in the analysis.
For most Chicagoans, Naperville’s high ranking is no surprise. The western suburb regularly ranks high as an ideal place to raise a family due to its school system, outdoor recreation, and local amenities. According to Altos Research, the median price for a home in Naperville is just more than $522,000.
Located just north of Chicago proper, Evanston is another no-brainer for Chicagoans as a family-friendly place to live. The community has historic residential architecture, great schools, and is one of the few Illinois towns near Lake Michigan. Evanston is also just about 15 miles north of downtown Chicago, making weekend trips and work commutes manageable.
Arlington Heights is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, but it’s close to Schaumburg and all the shopping and dining options in the Woodfield area. Arlington Heights is most known for the Arlington Park race track, which is a big draw for Chicagoans during the summer months.
Skokie was the last Chicago suburb to make the list. Located about 15 miles north of downtown Chicago and a neighbor to Evanston. Altos Research found the median home value in Skokie to be just about $369,000.
