The website Niche recently released its list of the 2017 Best Places to Live in America, and Naperville ranks as the No. 2 best city.

Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Niche’s own data, and self-reported information from Niche users, the site’s considers several factors — including housing trends, employment statistics, crime rates, quality of local schools, and access to local amenities — to create the ranking.

Ranking just below Ann Arbor, Michigan, Naperville earned an A+ Overall Niche Grade, which is based on schools, housing, family-friendly activities, crime and safety, nightlife, and diversity.  The Chicago suburb is located in both DuPage and Will counties and has a population of just over 145,000.

The area’s median home value is $379,000 and the median rent is $1,308. A large majority — 76 percent — of Naperville residents own their home. Naperville ranks in the No. 1 spot on lists such as Best Cities to Raise a Family in America, Cities with the Best Public Schools in America, and Safest Cities in America. 

The community is best known for its downtown shopping district and scenic riverwalk that offer residents plenty of things to do throughout the year. Downtown Naperville is also home to North Central College, a small private college. It’s even known as a great beach town, even though they don’t technically have any beaches.
