New $19 Million Bridge Will Span LA River at Elysian Valley
The Los Angeles Board of Public Works has approved a plan for a new bridge over the LA River, according to a report by KPCC. Serving both pedestrians and cyclists, the new bridge would span 400 feet while connecting Elysian Valley and Taylor Yard. The project’s cost comes to $19 million.
Connecting the two sides of the riverbank has been a primary goal of the larger LA River revitalization initiatives, and this new bridge continues to pursue that goal. According to the KPCC report, the northern end of the bridge would sit next to Kerr Road. The southern end would be between Altman Street and Dorris Pace, besides the Los Angeles River Greenway Trail.
An environmental study is still pending on the bridge, though that’s currently on track for fall. The bridge is still several years out from completion.
Similar bridges are also being proposed at various other junctures along the river. Urbanize.LA notes a nearby bridge between Griffith Park and Atwater Village will span 325 feet and cost around $16 million.
Additional proposals for Downtown LA sections of the LA River bring with them ideas for more pedestrian bridges as well.
