New Bike Lane Through Chicago's Edgewater and Andersonville Goes Against Traffic
Two years after the project was first made public, a new southbound bike lane is open on Glenwood Avenue in the Edgewater and Andersonville neighborhoods, per DNAinfo. This lane, known as the Glenwood Greenway, runs from Ridge Avenue to a little past Foster Avenue.
Glenwood Avenue is a one-way northbound street, so this bike lane goes against traffic. The Glenwood Greenway, named for the bright green paint that marks the lane, was added to serve as a slower option for bike riders not comfortable with bike lanes in high-traffic areas nearby, including N. Clark Street, Broadway Street, and Sheridan Road.
The new lane does have a small impact on the area’s parking situation. Two parking spots between Hollywood Avenue and Ridge Avenue have been removed as a result of the new bike lane.
