The area alongside Long Beach’s Queen Mary could be in for a big makeover according to recent renderings. Urban Commons, which operates the ship/hotel, released a new look at plans for the 66-acre space on the waterfront beside the Queen Mary.

Some of the proposed updates include a 7,000-seat amphitheater, 500,000 square feet of entertainment and retail, a renewed boardwalk area, and public music and art installations.

Urban Commons bills the new Urban Adventures concept as the largest attraction, however. The 150,000-square-foot center will house 22 different sports and entertainment activities in a single building. Highlights include two rooftop surf pavilions, a zip line roller coaster, ice climbing, ropes courses, and a Ninja Warrior training ground.

Ground won’t break on this project for years, but with designs nearly complete, the waterfront revitalization appears to be headed in the right direction. Attractions like these in Long Beach will add to the festive and inviting atmosphere around the city come the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Long Beach’s waterfront is slated to be one of the primary venues for the Olympics, but that requires some additional investment in advance. The city is also discussing replacing the Belmont Pier, which was set to be used to watch sailing events.
