Outlast the Apocalypse in Luxury With Texas' Trident Lakes
The tiny Texas town of Ector has seen quite the population boom in recent years. A 600-person town in 2000, it shot up to 695 people by the time 2010 rolled around. If those extra 100 folks suddenly makes the tiny town 70 miles outside of Dallas feel a bit more crowded, then just wait until the end of the world forces 2,000 more people to call it home.
That's the idea behind Trident Lakes, a $320 million project by Vintuary Holdings Corporation designed to be a luxury home base for residents hoping to survive whatever apocalyptic scenario has occurred. The 700-acre compound, which will be protected by a 13-foot security wall with two security watchtowers and a private security force, will include 532 underground luxury condos ranging from 900 to 7,200 square-feet. There's also the possibility that it could include a private airstrip big enough to accommodate the largest airplanes. No wonder residential unit prices are expected to run between $500,000 to $1.5 million.
What's the point of surviving if life isn't going to be enjoyable? To that end, Trident Lakes will include a golf course, resort spa, equestrian center, jogging/biking trails, gun ranges, tennis courts, polo field, indoor gym and restaurants. However, if the point is to survive a nuclear attack, devastating virus, or zombie outbreak, Trident Lakes needs to focus on being self-sufficient. That's why it will also include communal greenhouses, a tunnel system, DNA vault, and helipads. Off-the-grid supplies of food, water, and electricity will be available in case the community has to go it alone.
As Spokesman and Communications Director Richie Whitt refers to it, Trident Lake is a “five-star playground with DEFCON 1 preparedness." He says he thinks that the remoteness of the development will likely make it attractive to celebrities, musicians, and professional athletes. Given their desire to make it an exclusive opportunity, Phase I of potential residents are by invitation-only while Phase II will be filled by waiting list.
Currently under construction, you can find out more about the project over at their website. And if you're wondering whether or not you can live there, you probably already would have been invited by now, so...
