Once completed, backers of the proposed Mustang Square development in Plano, TX think it could have a near-$2 billion economic impact on the region. Given the breadth and mix of retail, commercial, and residential projects included, it’s no wonder hopes are high for this 38.7-acre project.

Proposed to cover a vacant tract of land at the southwest corner of State Highway 121 and Rasor Boulevard just east of Preston Road, Mustang Square is set to include over a dozen buildings. Among them will be a 448-apartment complex, two office buildings measuring over 100,00 square feet, four retail buildings with over 68,000 square feet, and three hotels. Also included in the project will be 75 townhomes and a 172-unit senior living complex. A greenbelt will run through the center of the project with a creek in the middle.

The first phase of the complex will be the apartments, which JPI Developments says they will start building in 2018. Thakker Developers owns the property while Gensler designed the entire project.
