Before the end of the year, Crystal Lagoons will begin developing a massive eight-acre waterpark and fountains on Interstate 30, according to the Dallas Morning News

Though work on the elaborate water features was expected to start earlier this year, developer Kent Donohue told the News that development should be underway in October or November.

The Crystal Lagoon project is part of the $1 billion Bayside mixed-use development in Rowlett. In addition to two condo towers, single-family homes, and apartments, the 262-acre community plans to include more than one million square feet of restaurant, retail, entertainment, and office space on Lake Ray Hubbard.

By day, the waterpark will provide resort-style recreation with features that range from a waterfront zipline, surf machine, swim-up bars, and floating firepits to electric boats and cruisers for sailing. By night, the epic fountains with over 250 nozzles and lasers will transform the lagoon into a glittering display of dancing colors.

The Bayside site is one of two Crystal Lagoons being built in Texas. The first two-acre Crystal Lagoon is slated to open northeast of Houston in early 2018.

"By the end of the year we expect to have five projects signed in Texas," Christopher Souza, Crystal Lagoons' Regional Director, told the newspaper. "We've seen a huge interest in Houston and Dallas."

Souza added that new residential communities are looking at his firm's resort water features as an alternative to golf courses or other recreational amenities.

"Our lagoon tailors to a family whereas with golf, it's not for kids most of the time," he said. "The whole family goes to the beach."
