River East Development to Bring Walkable, Urban Community to Fort Worth
Fort Worth is seeing a lot of redevelopment in urban neighborhoods. The latest is the River East mixed-use project at 2900 Race St. Bisnow reports that Criterion Property Co.’s development will include live-work rental units, a gym, and a co-working space.
River East has 181 units that range in size from 600 square feet to 1,300 square feet. Nine additional live-work units will have 700 square feet to 2,500 square feet. The mixed-use aspects of the River East development include a 2,000-square-foot gym that will be open 24 hours, a coworking space, and 3,000 square feet of retail space.
River East is named for the transforming historic neighborhood just east of Downtown Fort Worth. The area is enjoying revitalization efforts, like farmers and artisan markets, homemade gourmet ice cream shops, and neighborhood restaurants. Other housing developments are also going up nearby, reflecting the area’s appeal to those who want a walkable urban neighborhood.
“River East is contemporary and more urban with pocket parks,” Criterion Director of Development Chad Colley told Bisnow. “River East is for people who want to feel like they live Downtown, or maybe they want to live above a restaurant or co-working space.”
The River East project will be complete in about two years.
In the meantime, residents recently started moving into The Scenic at River East, another nearby Criterion project by Gables Residential. The Scenic at River East broke ground in May 2016 and includes 276 units in 21 buildings. The Scenic has more green space with private yards and larger floor plans, while the River East development is more urban and efficiently sized.
Criterion owns a total of 80 acres in the neighborhood and has an eye for transforming the area.
“[We] want to see the area turn and we can’t do it alone,” Colley said. “We’re looking for this to act as a catalyst for other development and bring future growth.”
