River North Rowhouses to be Demolished to Make Way for Hotel
Chicago’s River North is in the middle of a high-rise boom, but that may be coming at the cost of some of the older homes of the neighborhood.
According to Curbed Chicago, Alderman Brendan Reilly announced in an email that developers plan to knock down a trio of older rowhouses at 12-22 W. Erie Street to make way for a 15-story hotel. Like in the case of another River North high-rise that will eliminate some old homes in its way, the homes in this case are also not protected by landmark protection, although structures of that type are becoming increasingly rare in the neighborhood.
The developer, Chicago’s Neighborhood Development Corp., will present their plans for the site at a public meeting. The plan for the hotel calls for 15-stories with 178 guest rooms and a 3,000-square-foot restaurant space.
