A proposal to improve Fire Station 35 in San Francisco was recently submitted to turn the century-old facility into a floating rescue pier.

Per SocketSite, plans for the fire station renovation include replacing the deteriorating docks for a new floating one that would accommodate an additional fire boat, a new rescue watercraft, jet skis, a dive boat, locker rooms, a dorm with 26 beds and officer quarters, and ambulance access to the back of fire station.

The South Beach station at Pier 22 ½ is currently a little over 4,700 square feet, while the new barge would be over 19,000 square feet. The plan is to construct the barge at Treasure Island and then, once completed, ferry it to Station 35.

The project is expected to cost $39.9 million and wouldn’t begin until 2019, with projections to finish in 2021.
