South Park Development Bringing New Park to Downtown Los Angeles
Downtown Los Angeles could be welcoming a new park in the coming years due to one South Park development. South Grand Park is proposed to sit between South Grand Avenue and Margo Street, taking up one-half acre with open greenspace and other amenities.
Urbanize.LA was first to spot the presentation from developer Mack Urban, which details three potential concepts for the space. One would include a small performance area, along with a public art space, and paseo. The second would be centered on a large lawn and a restaurant terrace. The third is centered around a water feature, small food vendors, and communal seating.
Like many recent proposals around Downtown LA, the move would be a welcome addition to some open greenspace — in general, Los Angeles is fairly park-poor. South Park has public areas like LA Live next to Staples Center and the convention center. However, the only other nearby park areas are Grand Hope Park and Pershing Square.
Pershing Square is also due for its own overhaul, getting $1.5 million from the city back in May.
There is no timeline for South Grand Park yet, though reviews would last through at least the end of October.
