South Phoenix Village Redevelopment Project Adds 120 New Homes

The neighborhood of South Phoenix Village in South Phoenix is going through an “uprising,” Neighborhood Services Director Chris Hallett tells ABC15, as a city redevelopment project moves toward its next phase.

After many years of disrepair and lack of use, the City of Phoenix and nonprofit FSL Real Estate are turning 120 city-acquired vacant lots in this 1940s subdivision into energy-efficient homes that range from 1,300 to 1,700 square feet.

Members of the community are hailing the development as a positive addition to the area between 24th Street east to 32nd Street and Broadway Road south to Roeser Road. The redevelopment will provide priced-out buyers an opportunity to own homes with close proximity to several major freeways and outdoor amenities such as South Mountain and the Rio Salado Trail.

There will be three floorplans to choose from and prices will begin in the $180,000s. A program offers $15,000 in home buyer assistance in the form or a zero percent interest deferred loan that is fully forgivable after 15 years, according to FSL’s website. Qualifications for the homebuyer assistance program can also be found on the website. Requirements include a stipulation that buyers must purchase the home as their primary residence and contribute at least 50 percent of the required down payment.
