Last we heard, the Oakland A’s had narrowed their choices for a new baseball stadium down to three potential Oakland sites: The current site of the Oakland Coliseum in Central East Oakland, a waterfront park at the Port of Oakland’s Howard Terminal in West Oakland, and a site near Laney College and Lake Merritt in Downtown Oakland

According to a study by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, no matter which one they eventually choose, the city and its businesses stand to profit. Per The East Bay Times, a new baseball stadium anywhere in the city would generate close to $3.05 billion in economic impact in just the first decade of operations.

Broken down, the estimate expects around $768 million in construction-related spending, $1.54 billion in game-day spending, and $742 million generated from ballpark operations.

A’s team president Dave Kaval told the Times the franchise was “very pleased with the results” and said they expect to announce the winning site “this calendar year.”

The report presumes that the A’s will see an attendance increase of one million, which is in line with teams in similar markets that got new stadiums. The caveat is that those teams also tried to ensure their team was in good condition that season in order to goose interest. The A’s are notorious for doing their own thing at their own pace, so that could cut into the initial gains.
