2016 made for a dangerous year for pedestrians, hitting an all-time high for pedestrian deaths in San Diego County.

EB Trial Attorneys recently compiled a list of the 218 most dangerous intersections for pedestrians (where almost 20 percent of all incidents occur). Over 160,000 collision records were analyzed to narrow down the worst intersections, which accounted for 20 percent of all pedestrian collisions in the county. Rankings were compiled by several categories, including number of crashes, severity of injuries, and number of fatalities.

The 10 most dangerous intersections and their neighborhood or city include:

  • University and 1st Avenue (Hillcrest)
  • Valley Parkway and Midway Avenue (Escondido)
  • Linda Vista Road and Ulric (Linda Vista)
  • 4th Avenue and C Street (Chula Vista)
  • Federal Boulevard and Euclid Avenue (Oak Park)
  • El Cajon Boulevard and Altadena Avenue (La Mesa)
  • Camino Del Rio and Sports Arena Boulevard (Point Loma)
  • University Avenue and Estrella (City View)
  • University Avenue and 44th Street (City View)
  • University Avenue and Fairmount (City View)

A major east-west corridor, University Avenue proved itself to be a repeat offender, as four of the top 10 intersections include the street. University Avenue is the third longest road in the county at 9.79 miles long, reaching as far east as La Mesa and as far west as Mission Hills.
