Within days, two different projects were revealed for the West Loop neighborhood, including a food hall, high-rise office towers, and a multiscreen movie theater. As massive companies like McDonald’s and Google have made their home in the West Loop/Fulton Market, residential, hotel, and office developers are eager to make their mark.

The Time Out Group announced Dec. 11 that it would open its third food hall location in the United States at 916 W. Fulton Market in 2019. The company signed a conditional lease agreement to open its two-story, 50,000-square-foot food hall that is slated to have 600 seats. The food market will have three total floors, including a rooftop deck, along with an event venue.

The company opened its first food hall in 2014 in Lisbon, Portugal, and has plans to open a Miami location in 2018 and Boston in 2019. Chicago was chosen as a new location for Time Out for several reasons, according to CEO of Time Out Group Julio Bruno. The brand — the parent company of the Time Out arts guides — has been around in Chicago since 2005, and the city and neighborhood is home to a thriving food and cultural scene.

Just a few blocks away from where the food hall will open, developer Sterling Bay hopes to transform the former Coyne College site at 330 N. Green St. with offices and a movie theater. According to Curbed Chicago, plans include a 20-story office tower with ground floor retail, a 19-story office tower, and a 21-story office tower. All three of the structures will include hundreds of parking spaces.

The developer also proposed plans for a nine-story building at 345 N. Morgan St., which will include ground-floor retail, multiple levels for parking, and an eight-screen movie theater. The building could open as early as 2020.
