What It's Like Living in Skye Canyon, Las Vegas
Without a doubt, Las Vegas has some ideal suburbs for homebuyers. Among them is Skye Canyon, which was named one of the top-selling master planned communities in 2018.
Here’s why you should consider living in the master-planned community of Skye Canyon.
Home Styles and Prices
Opened in 2015, Skye Canyon offers homebuyers a variety of new construction homes featuring modern designs. The 1,000-acre master-planned community has a wide selection of single-family homes spread throughout its northwest corner of the Valley near Lee Canyon and Mount Charleston.
Some of the builders offering their latest home designs include Lennar, Pulte, Woodside, Richman American, and Pardee Homes. Skye Canyon offers a variety of floor plans ranging from 1,470 to almost 3,400 with energy-efficient designs, spacious layouts, modern finishes, and upscale appliances. Homebuyers can also find reasonably priced new construction homes starting in the mid $200s.
New Developments
Skye Canyon continues to expand its boundaries with nine new developments opening this year alone. Over the summer, the community hosted a blockbuster event to introduce Phase 2 to the community.
The new addition to Skye Canyon will include six neighborhoods spread across 213 acres, as well as walking trails, a two-acre park, and bike lanes. Among them is Pinyon Chase by Woodside Homes, a gated community featuring large two-story home designs with three to four bedrooms and two to three bathrooms.
Amenities
Skye Canyon is well-known for its rich lineup of amenities. The community’s central hub of activity is found at the spacious Skye Center which features an on-site restaurant called Skye Bistro. For active residents, the community offers a state-of-the-art fitness center with a fitness class studio, personal training sessions, a Junior Olympic swimming pool, and a kids programming studio. Residents also enjoy access to the Smith’s Marketplace, which has multiple on-site retail shops and restaurants.
With plenty of outdoor space, Skye Canyon promotes an active lifestyle. Skye View Park and Eagle Canyon Park offer everything from dog parks and sports fields to shaded picnic areas, playgrounds, and walking trails.
Schools
In Skye Canyon, you’ll find schools for children of all ages. Schools in the area with solid rankings include James Bilbray Elementary School, which has high test scores and academic progress, according to GreatSchools.org. Other school options in the area include Sandra L Thompson Elementary School, Edmundo Eddie Escobedo Sr Middle School, and Arbor View High School, which is ranked highly for its students’ college readiness.
Family-Friendly Events
Another selling point for Skye Canyon is its focus on community and social events. Most of them even take place in the community center, where residents have free WiFi as well as access to cozy fireplaces and barbeque stations. Skye Canyon also hosts regular community events that bring homeowners together in a welcoming atmosphere such as Chalktober Fest, which is a chalk art competition in the fall, and fitness-oriented classes and activities throughout the year.
What It’s Like to Live Here
When you visit Skye Canyon, it’s clear that the neighborhood has a suburban vibe. But it’s not like other, more established communities in town. Unlike older master-planned communities like Summerlin, Skye Canyon is a bit smaller, and it’s mostly made up of newer single-family homes. Families are drawn to Skye Canyon because of its welcoming neighborhood vibe and family-friendly amenities such as good schools, parks, playgrounds, and social events.
Living in Skye Canyon also means you’ll need a car to get around, especially if you plan to commute to work. If you don’t have access to your own vehicle, there are a few public transit options via bus routes. There are also ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft that operate in the area.
