Tech companies creating mega-campuses in Silicon Valley is officially a trend.

The San Bruno-based video streaming giant YouTube has launched a 15-month review into connecting the company’s eight existing buildings together to create a campus environment. YouTube’s headquarters are located at Bayhill Office Park.

The City of San Bruno is also conducting research and development of the project, which YouTube is required to fund. Other businesses at Bayhill Office Park will be involved in the process of development. The tech giant already owns 900,000 of the 1.5 million square feet making up the office park.

NBC Bay Area reports that this project comes as the tech company plans for its anticipated growth over the next two decades. YouTube’s headquarters currently employ 1,700 people and the company plans to add an additional 350 employees annually.

YouTube’s proposed expansion is also an attempt by them to follow in their parent company’s footsteps. Google is in the process of buying several properties for its expansion into Downtown San Jose. Rival tech giant Apple is also about to open their own massive campus in Cupertino.
